GENERAL KEY TO PEDOFEATURES

1. pedofeatures associated with a concentration of a granulometric fraction related to mechanical transportation: textural pedofeatures

2. pedofeatures not meeting the requirements of 1 above, associated with the loss of chemical components compared with the adjacent material: depletion pedofeatures

3. pedofeatures not meeting the requirements of 1-2 above, composed of crystals of any size distinguishable under the optical microscope. The crystals need not be discrete at this level of observation but crystallinity can be deduced from optical properties: crystalline pedofeatures

4. pedofeatures not meeting the requirements of 1-3 above, arising from non-mechanical transportation. They are isotropic between crossed polarizers except for inclusions of birefringent organic and/or mineral basic components: amorphous and cryptocrystalline pedofeatures

5. pedofeatures not meeting the requirements of 1-4 above, differentiated from adjacent material only by different fabric: fabric pedofeatures 6. pedofeatures not meeting the requirements 1-5 above, with a form associated with excrements of soil animals: excrement pedofeatures
