Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of urban sewage sludge applied on two disturbed forest soils. Addition of the sludge to the soil increased the organic matter content and the CEC. The pH decreased during the incubation period. Available heavy metal concentration was not increased in the soil by the sludge application. This result was expected, since the sludge used contained very low levels of heavy metals. Net N-mineralization was always positive, and increases during the incubation period. The increase in the sludge application caused, also, an increase in the net N-mineralization. The highest values occurred after 45 days incubation and applied 50Mg/ha on soil 1, and 25 Mg/ha on soil 2. Content N03-N increased after 45 days incubation with all sewage applications. The highest values occurred when were applied 50Mg/ha.
These results suggest that the urban sewage sludge application studied is satisfactory for forest soils reclamation.

Key words: sewage sludge, N-mineralization, organic matter, reclamation soils.
