Field trials were conducted in an olive plantation located at the experimental farm "La Higueruela" to assess the use of different herbaceous covers: subclover, commercial vetch species and vegetation corresponding to the soil seed bank. The efficiency of these treatments was estimated with respect to the traditional practice of non-tillage accompanied by the use of herbicides. Results show the importance that leguminous plants, both native and commercial, may have on the sustainability of this type of olive plantation.
