Abstract

Coal mine reclamation using two mine soil spoils was evaluated. The spoils were combined with four levels of pig slurry (140, 280, 420 and 560 m3 ha-1 ) and cereal straw (0 and 12 Mg ha-1). These treatment combinations were arranged as a randomized block design with three replicates. Treatments were located in flowerpots. Coarse spoil (A) contained 89 % of coarse fragments (p/p). Fine spoil (B) was more silty material, without coarse fragments and was combined with spoil A. Festuca arundinácea was sown in all treatments. Plant biomass and soil salinity were evaluated. According to the results, a pig slurry dose of 420 m3 ha-1 combined with a spoil mixture and straw addition is recommended.

Keywords: coal spoil, reclamation, pig slurry.
