How is the interference figure seen?

In order to see the interference figure, the following requirements must be met:

condenser incorporated in its highest possible position

field and aperture diaphragms open to their full extent

objective with high magnification (x 40 to x 50), centred accurately in relation to the rotating axis of the stage.

polariser and analyser crossed.

Amici Bertrand lens. This lens is not essential, as the figure can be seen after removing both it and the ocular, but its use is recommended as it amplifies and focusses the figure.

Compensators. These are used to determine the optic sign.
